Skin Resurfacing Q & A
What is Pellevé?
The Pellevé system is an FDA-cleared skin treatment that can improve problems like fine lines, wrinkles, and poor skin tone. This type of treatment is sometimes referred to as skin resurfacing because it actually rejuvenates the skin from the inside out. Pellevé is non-surgical and entirely non-invasive, so it's a leading way to dramatically improve the skin overall.
What is the skin resurfacing treatment like?
Skin resurfacing treatment starts with the application of a soothing conductive gel. This gel allows the Pellevé treatment to work effectively while keeping the patient comfortable. As the handheld treatment device is moved over the treatment area, patients will experience a sensation of deep warmth. The warmth is relaxing for most patients, but if it becomes uncomfortable the treatment can be adjusted to improve comfort levels. As the Pellevé treatment delivers heat to the deeper skin layers, the skin is prompted to start producing new collagen. The new collagen will develop over time, and will smooth and tighten the face. The treatment generally takes only about 30-60 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.
How many skin resurfacing sessions are needed?
This can vary by person. Most people find that they achieve optimal results with 3 total treatment sessions. However, there’s usually a noticeable improvement after only 1 session. Treatments are scheduled around 4 weeks apart to allow time for collagen synthesis to occur.
What is the recovery like after skin resurfacing with Pellevé?
One of the major advantages of Pellevé, as opposed to other types of skin resurfacing, is that it's non-invasive and doesn't require any downtime. Patients will usually experience minor skin irritation or swelling after the treatment, but this is usually gone within just a few hours. Patients should avoid the sun and tanning beds to allow the skin time to heal fully after the treatment. If desired, patients can return to work as soon as their treatment is complete.
How long do the skin resurfacing effects last?
The majority of patients still have improved skin 6 months after treatment. To keep skin looking youthful, smooth, and beautiful, it's recommended that patients have maintenance treatments 1-2 times per year.
